The AOA has requested help from state organizations in urging physicians to contact their congressional delegation. The subject concerns the "short-term fix" on Medicare structure. A flyer is provided for your to read, in PDF format; Adobe Reader is required.
The Association is pleased to announce the 2008 Emerald Coast Medical Conference is now open for application. A comprehensive list of subjects is planned, as always; and we will again be at the Sandestin Hilton Resort in Destin, Florida, for our famous "family-friendly" conference. See the CME page for information.
The AOMA Webmaster is always looking for membership input on how to increase the usefulness of aloma.org. News and conference schedules are being posted here, as well as other information for both the profession and non-professionals. Other suggestions will be considered and recommended to the President and Board of Directors for inclusion.
Please send any suggestions to brucekalis@bellsouth.net, with thanks from me for your input; or you may telephone (205) 938-3240. Comments and criticism are also solicited, as ever.
The 2007 Emerald Coast Conference in Destin was another success, and we are already beginning to plan for 2008. Among the high points was the announcement at the Tuesday night party of five winners of a scholarship for their medical studies. Congratulation go to the following young people:
The Association wishes you the best of success in your studies and your future careers.
As members know, Alabama is chronically short of primary-care physicians to serve in the many rural areas of our state. The Alabama Medical Education Consortium (AMEC), hosted at the University of West Alabama, was established to help remedy this shortfall, by providing an opportunity for promising candidates to attend medical school at one of several participating COMs.
The AMEC now has a Web site that describes its functions, as well as giving information for applicants to the program. Check it out at www.amec.uwa.edu. And please remember to suggest investigating this opportunity to any students in your area who seem qualified and are interested in a medical career.
The AOA is pleased to provide a Patient Fact Sheet for use by physicians and patients. Developed by HHS, AHRQ, and other health care organizations, the Fact Sheet describes five steps to help patients get safer health care. It can be downloaded for use by physicians and their patients. The page is excellent for posting as a lobby display for patient information.
The Fact Sheet is now available directly from the AOMA site (size 303 kB); you will need the current version of Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print the page. A black-and-white .jpeg version is also available (219 kB).
